We wish to inform all users that BBDO2 will be officially deprecated with the 25.10 release of Centreon. This change is part of our ongoing effort to enhance the platform’s performance, security, and compatibility with modern infrastructure requirements.
What is BBDO?
BBDO, for Binary Broker for Data Operations, is a core protocol for exchanging monitoring data between a Centreon central server and pollers/remote servers.
Why is BBDO2 Being Deprecated?
With Broker 22.04.0, we have introduced a new version of BBDO based on Google Protobuf 3.
The new protocol remains compatible with the previous one, but introduces new events.
There are several key reasons for the depreciation of BBDO2:
- Performance improvements
- Flexibility: easier maintenance and enhancements
- To enable Broker-managed configuration & differential configuration export, which are using Protobuf messages (reduced network footprint for configuration updates).
What This Means for You
For most of our customers, BBDO3 is aready used as default value for new pollers.
You can check in the logs which version of BBDO is active for a server:
central broker:
tail /var/log/centreon-broker/central-{broker,rrd,module}-master.log
remote broker:
tail /var/log/centreon-broker/<remote_name>-{broker,rrd,module}-master.log
poller module:
tail /var/log/centreon-broker/<poller_name>-module.log
You can also check the BBDO configuration for each poller, in the Configuration > Pollers > Broker configuration > BBDO version field.
If you have pollers with version <22.04 (BBDO2) or if you want to ensure there will be no issue in 25.10
You should transition to BBDO 3.0.1 for all servers in your architecture (central server, remote servers, pollers). Then your platform will be ready to be upgraded to version 25.10.
Follow this quick procedure.
If your platform is already using BBDO 3.0/3.0.1
The 25.10 upgrade will be done without any issue or manual action required, and BBDO 3.1 will be introduced and used everywhere.
If you are using custom stream connectors based on BBDO2
You will have to adapt these connectors to BBDO3, by following this procedure.
